BBDO New York and Atmosphere Proximity have won Emirates Airline's North American business, replacing Boston firm ISM which worked with the marketer for about 10 years. The Omnicom agency beat other shops including Grey, DDB and JWT in a review for the account, sources said.BBDO, which previously had a 40-year working relationship with Delta, works for Emirates overseas through offices like Impact BBDO in Dubai. In addition, Atmosphere Proximity has handled global digital and social responsibilities for the airline for nearly eight years.Last year, Emirates spent about $31 million in measured media. The agency change to BBDO and Atmosphere Proximity does not affect StrawberryFrog, which was awarded the Dubai-based airline's global creative lead responsibilities in 2010.
The move comes after the snacks maker hired AKQA, We Are Social, Vice and Proximity to expand the digital presence for brands such as Trident and Belvita in international markets. Mondelez has redesigned its European digital roster so that there are two groups of agencies – full-service agencies and specialists to focus on social media and branded content. AKQA and Proximity will operate as integrated outfits for the company’s top brands such as Cadbury and Oreo, while We Are Social and Vice will work on campaigns that capitalise on the shift towards second-screen experiences.
Since 2011, VW China has been engaged, with help from Proximity China and Goodstein & Partners, in a massive social CRM program that allows Chinese “netizens” (my new favorite word) to imagine, create, and share their own one-of-a-kind car designs—anything from a puffer fish on wheels to a hover car that moves along by interacting with natural minerals in the ground. It's about turning the concept of the concept car on its ear by bringing China's crowdsourced car dreams into reality. What can I say? I'm a fan.

There is something looming on the horizon and, if we don’t act accordingly, your brand may be worth only a buck someday, just like TV Guide. No one can accuse Google of not thinking big. Project Loon, Google’s audacious “moonshot” vision to bring mobile Internet connectivity to the billions without – via balloons – is one of the company’s biggest ideas ever. Facebook is widely expected to announce Thursday a video feature for Instagram, the photo-sharing service it bought for $1 billion last year. Some are speculating that this is a competitive response to Vine, Twitter’s clever short-video app. But what if Facebook had a broader purpose in mind—habituating its users to seeing videos? It’s An Ad, Ad, Ad World Marketers are [...]
Around the world, the health care system is rife with inefficiencies, and General Electric thinks it can help solve the problem using data. Only it’s not talking about bureaucrats looking at reports: GE has built an artificial intelligence system called Corvix that uses historical data to predict the future, including everything from how diseases will [...]
Real-time social networks like Twitter and Facebook are connecting people around the globe in a myriad of different ways, millions of times every minute, but we hardly ever get to see those connections represented visually. That’s why research projects like a recent study from a team of scientists at the University of Illinois are so valuable — [...]
