WaterAid’s vision is a world where everyone everywhere has safe water, sanitation and hygiene. So, we needed an idea that dramatises the problem but offers an immediate opportunity to help.

The Challenge

By using the power of context and live data could the humble coin-operated changing-room locker become a compelling new media platform whilst unlocking a whole new revenue stream for WaterAid?

The Solution

Hope Locker incorporates a donation platform within coin-operated swimming pool lockers to deliver a contextually powerful message about the number of child fatalities caused by poor water sanitation. The swimmer is then asked to decide whether or not to donate to WaterAid their £1 coin used to operate the locker.

The Results

The trial proved that Hope Locker has the potential to generate extra income and raise awareness and engagement for charities like WaterAid. Based on 120 units per site the projected income over 12 months would be £110,800 per year.
